Dear Praying friends & supporters,                        October, 2015

The Apostle Paul reminds us that Abraham was “… fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform” (Romans 4:21)  Imagine what every local church could do for our Lord if each of us had such faith in God.

Thank you for your prayers for us over the last three months.  My treatments down in Knoxville, Tennessee went well and our 4,500 mile drive back here to Manley Hot Springs was uneventful… after the

Dear Prayer Partners                                                                           July/August 2015

Thank you for praying for the Lord’s work here in Manley, and the summer's activities.  Our Lord has answered your prayers!  All of the aircraft maintenance are accomplished and the flights have been safely made for Bible camp.  Unfortunately, 2 or 3 flights were

Greeting from the Malpass’ in Manley!                        May 2015

We are enjoying the longer days, above freezing temps, as the restlessness experienced sitting around the wood stove at -40 and only four hours of daylight are a distant memory.  The sightings of the state bird (the mosquito) have been numerous and river ice has been gone for a week now.  Winter is over and Alaska’s 2nd season (construction) in here in full force!

I usually spend the first couple weeks of January planning the coming year with scheduled flights, repairs, special events at church, airplane maintenance, building projects and such.  Our Lord always tweaks my feeble attempts of scheduling what I believe He wants me to do throughout the year.  This year has proved to be no exception!

Spring has sprung, and it seems to have sprung forward at lightning speed! We experienced an easy “break-up” this year. With the small amount of snow this winter, there too much left to melt. There has not been the usual flooding that takes place yet, but the rivers haven’t broke up yet.  We have been busy with the different aspects of our ministry.  We are thankful to be busy about the Lord's work.

Looking forward into the day planner shows a very busy couple months, so I thought I’d send out this shorter, less formal

Even a casual look at churches in America reveals a major departure from the teaching of God.  Americans who call themselves Christians, when confronted with the claims of Christ verses the current world view, seem to agree with the fair weather disciples “… This is an hard saying; who can hear it?”  (JN 6:60).  May our God help us to say with His true disciples “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” (JN 6:68).  Christ died for us; why should we be more loyal to a political party, celebrity, or religious institution when they stray from the Laws of God?

Dear friends

The Psalmist told us to praise the Lord… “For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.” Psalm 117:2  We have clearly watched our Lord repeatedly show “His merciful kindness” over the last few months.

He has shown His mercy in our village ministry in Manley Hot Springs.  We recently baptized two adults and a young person in the hot springs hot house.  What a thrill it is to watch the Lord work in hearts and His children be obedient to His Word!  As an added blessing, we get to have baptisms with beautiful flowers, hanging grapes, and other plants.  God’s “merciful kindness is great toward us.”

Greetings from Alaska!                                                           March 2014

Those of us who live this far north are enjoying a wonderful time of the year.  We are experiencing over 12 hours of direct sunlight, temperatures are between 0 and +30F, and no mosquitoes!  I find it interesting to observe that when the signs of spring arrive, there comes with them a boost of energy.  There is a sense of urgency to take advantage of above zero temps, frozen rivers, and the snow.  There many chores that those who live remotely can only

Greetings from Manley Hot Springs, Alaska!

We trust you had a wonderful and blessed holiday season! This was our first time celebrating
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years while living in this community. In previous years, we would
drive here, hold the service, then drive away. It was a blessing to feel more like we were a part of the
community this time. Of course we missed our family, but we'd say it was a blessed holiday season.
“The first winter is always your hardest winter.” This is probably the most common statement w from
our friends here.

Although we have been in Alaska almost 13 years, living off the grid, in a partially built house, and 160

Dear Pastor and Friends,                        November 2013

Hello from Manley Hot Springs, Alaska.  When we last wrote you, we were still in the Carolinas preparing for the 85 hour drive back here to Alaska.  Well, we have been back here for 2 ½ months now, and have been frantically trying to get prepared for winter before it arrive with it's below 0 temperatures and snow.  I will never be "caught up," but it's -10F outside, and while I'm warming up, I figured it would be a good time get you guys "caught up" on how the Lord is answering your prayers, and to give you some fresh requests.

The trip across this continent didn't disappoint.  From the Smokey Mountains,

August 2012

Dear Pastor and Friends,

As I am writing this update, we are winding down our furlough which has been used of the Lord in many ways.  Lynn has gained back a measure of her health, we’ve been blessed to renew old friendships and gain new ones visiting and updating our supporting churches, we’ve enjoyed the time we have had with family, and Jeremiah is now ready for Bible College.  Our plans are to leave the Hall’s farm (and our family and friends) here in the Carolina's and head towards

Faithful prayer partners and supporters,

We trust this update finds you enjoying the blessings from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”  Lamentations 3:22  He was good to us when He allowed us to stay on Bro. Don Hall’s farm as a home base to travel to and from our supporting churches.  3 John 1:6-7 “… whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: Because that for his name's sake they went forth.”  We are

Acts 14:27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how He had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

If we pause to think on this one verse, it would be easy to picture in our minds eye a great time rejoicing, excitement, and even awe amongst the brethren.  And why not?!  Souls had been saved, elders confirmed, and new Christians discipled!  God was building His church!  What's not to like about that?  Doctor Luke tells us that “they rehearsed all that God had done with them” I wonder how this verse might have read had a broken, bloody, injured Paul met with them after he had been stoned and left for dead in verse 19?  I wonder if it might have read, “they rehearsed all that God done TO them”.

January 2013

Winter was just beginning when we sent you our last update, but three short months later, Alaskans have experienced -50F temps and won't see the ground again until late April or later! “He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?” Psalms 147:16-17

Much of what is done in the ministry is not very exciting or noteworthy. Every ministry has its challenges and chores, which must be done in order to be a good steward of the Lord's resources, and ours is no different. Over the last two months, much of our time was spent preparing the ministry in Manley Hot Springs, the hangar and airplane at the airport, our house in North Pole, and ourselves for our 2013 furlough. Looking back at things, we praise the Lord for His goodness to us. He guided and gave strength along the way.

Jeremiah’s high school graduation was a blessing. Many of you have prayed for him many times

Hello from North Pole Alaska,

Remember the old saying, “Time sure does fly when you are having fun”?  We must be having a blast!  We have found that time also seems to fly away when you have a lot to do.

Thank you for praying for the ministry in Manley Hot Springs.  Occasionally, Earl has the opportunity to have other missionaries, pastors, or preachers visit the church service in this “end-of-the-road” community.  Virtually every one of them comments on the

July 2012

Hello from North Pole Alaska,

We are enjoying the wonderful, long Alaskan days, and the memories of the -60F are distant memories right now. As of June 21st, we start losing daylight, and the Fireweed flowers are in full bloom. With 24 hours of daylight, Alaskans don't seem to sleep much. Fishing, firewood, and fun times seem to be on most people’s minds.

We thank the Lord for granting safety, in over 44 hours of flying, since our last update. What does that equate to? That's over 7,400 nautical miles across rugged,

Warm wishes from North Pole, AK!

We've been waiting six months to be able to say that!  Those who record and track these facts tell us this has been the 4th coldest winter in Fairbanks since 1904.  When someone asked Earl how we stay warm at those temps, he told him we “sleep between the mattresses.”  Not quite, but it gets a chuckle.
